Hard Fork

hard forks are not forward compatible, and the new version does not support old version blocks. That means that users will have to upgrade to the new version of the code. A set back of a hard fork is that users and miners who do not upgrade have to remain on the old Blockchain-fork code indefinitely. Subsequently, hard forks are extremely difficult to implement because everyone would have to upgrade to the new rules.
